Order your natural and organic sustenance from these local vendors!
It doesn’t take a scientist to know that most of the products sold in the market today contain harmful chemicals. Nowadays though, many of us have decided to go the safer route by paying more attention to the food we eat and the products we buy. Check out the list below for places to score those healthier options. Fortunately, with more people getting into the business of selling and producing natural and organic food, these products aren’t so difficult to come by!
As a mother, Tisha Ang-Dominguez was very conscious of what she would feed her family, so she started farming in her own backyard. That’s how Backyard Farms was born! They produce pasture-raised, hormone-free, and antibiotic-free chicken; plus certified organic biodynamic red and black rice, too. In the long run, Backyard Farms wants to encourage more people to grow organic chicken and other produce even in their own backyards. But for now, we’re content to buy from their resellers around the metro!
Blackbird Farms is your go-to source for all-natural farm-grown dairy products in the city. Their milk and cheese products are rich in calcium and include essential nutrients! For a healthy snack, go for their feta cheese, which you can eat with crackers or use as a topping on a salad. Aside from dairy products, they have a creamy and hydrating goat milk lotion ideal for skin that’s in need of a little moisture.
At Holy Carabao, vegetables and fruits are farmed without chemicals, cows and pigs are grass-fed, poultry and eggs are pasture-raised, and rice and grains are non-GMO. With the goal of sustainable farming in mind, their produce depends on what’s in season. The best part? They want to make organic and healthy products easily accessible to everyone, making them readily available at select S&R branches and Rustan’s Supermarkets.
This general store along Arnaiz Avenue in Makati is all about sustainability (no plastic bags or bottles here!). Stocking organic food and green cleaning products, as well as amazing finds from other eco-conscious vendors, this small shop really encourages consumers to make a difference in their own small way. It’s also a cacao and coffee joint, so make sure to give these a try! Don’t miss the Project Hearth soups, jams and sauces for a healthy way to spice up your meals at home.
Want to eat healthy but being a vegetarian is out of the question? Meat lovers, we totally hear you! And we’re thankful that there are places like Gabrielle’s that sell products from animals raised in good living conditions. They have their own farm in Sta. Maria, Laguna, where chickens eat organic feeds and aren’t kept in cages. Their goats, hogs and cattle are also fed vegetables and legumes, and roam freely over grass-covered pastures. Gabrielle’s also sells some of our favorite healthy alternatives, from Take Root snacks to the Dairy Farm Manila’s ultra-creamy butter!
