Waxing tips and the best salons to get swimsuit ready.
Bikini season is officially upon us and our first order of business at the Sassy HQ is to get hairless below our eyebrows—if you know what I mean! Anyone who’s ever tried waxing knows that it’s not for the faint of heart. There’s a lot to consider: your tolerance for pain, annoying ingrown hairs, the fear of getting burned by too-hot wax. But then for girls who can’t commit to permanently removing hair by laser yet, but can’t stand shaving daily, waxing is the easiest and most accessible option out there. Whether you’re a waxing veteran or a hesitant first-timer, we’ve come up with some waxing tips to stick to this summer. Yup, pun totally intended.
1. Check your hair length
For a clean wax, at least a fourth of an inch hair growth is needed. Anything less will just lead to a lot of pain and frustration (for your therapist and yourself).
2. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever an hour before.
This may sound a bit extreme, but if you’re the kind of girl who cries during a threading session, you might want to consider popping a pain killer before your session. It makes a lot of difference and can also build up your courage to take the plunge if it’s your first time.
3. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate.
Exfoliate right before and two to three times a week after your wax with a body scrub or exfoliating glove to keep ingrown hairs at bay.
4. Find a therapist you love.
You may have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the one, but once you’ve found her, never let her go. Find that one therapist in your favorite waxing salon who knows what she’s doing (does a thorough, quick, almost painless job) and live happily (hairless) ever after.
Where to get waxed
There are only a few places in the metro that we trust to take care of our bikini lines. Tried and tested by yours truly, here are some of the salons I’d recommend to anyone looking to rock their bikini line this summer.
1. Strip Manila
Though Strip charges considerably higher than its other waxing counterparts, this chain has gathered a cult following for more than a few reasons. Rooms are clean, well designed, and have ample space. Therapists (and receptionists) are friendly and professional. Sessions are almost always near-painless with no stray, unwaxed hair in sight. What more can you ask for?
2. Neo Day Spa
If you’re a fan of Neo’s other services like their massages and facials, you’ll definitely love their waxing treatments. Greeted by a calming ambience definitely decreases any anxiety that comes with getting a wax. The idea of being pampered in a luxurious spa will make you want to get a wax as often as you can!
3. Pink Parlour
Like Strip, Pink Parlour hails from Singapore and is one of the most popular waxing chains there. They’ve even won numerous awards from different Singaporean publications since they opened in 2005. Don’t be fooled by the black and pink girly interiors, though. When it comes to sanitation and quality, they mean business. Singaporeans are known to be sticklers for cleanliness and orderliness, so standards are set pretty high at Pink Parlour.
